Family Medicine Q & A

What is family medicine?

In a world of increasingly specialized medicine, family medicine focuses on providing comprehensive health care designed to treat not just the whole patient, but the whole family. Family physicians at Marina Medical treat both genders and all ages, newborns to seniors. At Marina Medical we welcome ages 5 yr to 105 years. We in Family Medicine encourage and nurture enduring partnerships with patients and families.

What type of training do family physicians receive?

Family practice is broad and demands expertise in six major areas of medicine: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, community medicine, psychiatry and neurology, and surgery. In addition, family physicians may receive training in many other areas, such as geriatrics, emergency medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, urology, and radiology.

While Family Practice residencies now exist, Dr. Brown completed his board certification exams after a year each of rotating internship, surgical residency and pathology residency.   Later he was also board certified in Geriatrics, and he has many years experience in Emergency Room medicine.

What types of family medicine services does Dr. Brown provide?

With more than 40 years of experience, Dr. Brown is qualified to treat and manage a wide array of ailments for all ages, from infants to elderly. This ranges from managing chronic complex illness such as asthma and diabetes, to providing acute care for minor injuries and infections. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, Dr. Brown has extensive experience in non-invasive pain management, addiction medicine, and geriatrics.

Marina Medical keeps their emphasis and passion focused on a holistic and integrative approach to treatment. Natural remedies are encouraged when appropriate.
